Abstract
This study investigated the impact of e-library usage on the academic performance of biology students in five tertiary institutions within Kano Municipal Area, Kano State, Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted, with a population of 779 biology students and a sample of 240 (212 returned questionnaires) selected via random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with percentages and Pearson chi-square tests at a 5% significance level. Results revealed that 94.8% of respondents affirmed e-library usage significantly enhances performance (χ² = 177.4, df = 1, p < 0.05), rejecting the null hypothesis of no impact. Additionally, 91.5% indicated gender differences in e-library utilization, with males benefiting more due to greater familiarity and usage time (χ² = 106.2, df = 1, p < 0.05), rejecting the null hypothesis of no gender disparity. The study concludes that e-libraries improve access to resources, boost grades, and support learning, though gender imbalances and limited IT skills persist. Recommendations include mandatory computer literacy training, enhanced infrastructure, and librarian upskilling to maximize e-library benefits for biology students.
