ABSTRACT The study examines performance appraisal as a tool for reflecting employees’ strength and weakness in an Organization. The study aimed at developing a model thinking performance appraisal to tools for reflecting employee’s strength and weakness. Also to evaluate the extent at which performance appraisal has imparted on employees’ strength and weakness in Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The study is based on using the descriptive approach where the data collected by the primary and secondary sources. To achieve objective of the study, 180 questionnaires have been distributed, 100 questionnaire were available for analyses. The descriptive and inferential statistical tools used to descriptive the variables of the study (Means, Standard deviation, chi-square). It was reached that there is significant relationship between performance appraisal and employee’s performance (N=70; R2= 660; P>.000). the results of the study indicated that most employees preferred performance appraisals to be used for training and development purposes. Therefore, it was recommended that managers should improve on the training and development needs analysis component of performance appraisal policy in order to meet the aspirations of employees. A well trained and developed workforce is required for increased employee performance and organizational growth.
