Implementing Mindfulness Techniques in the Treatment of Depression in Chikun Local Government Area Kaduna State

Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State. 3 objectives and its correspondent questions guided the study. Survey research design was employed in carrying out the research. The population of the study consisted of 87 registered married and single ladies found in selected 6 public and private hospitals in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The researcher selected 20 respondents as the sample for the study using convenient sampling technique due to the difficulties associated with getting the registered depressed married and single ladies. The research instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. This was used to elicit the necessary information on the topic under study. The data collected from the questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and simple percentages so that the findings can easily be interpreted at a glance. The findings revealed that family history and illness are the major causes of depression in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. That Lie down-or sit up-in a comfortable position followed closely by inhale for 3 seconds, noticing how your hand rises as you breathe in and the next is breathe out are the mindfulness techniques used in treating depression. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that Kaduna State Ministry of health should organize sensitization seminar for married and single ladies to create awareness on the dangers of depression and how to avoid and treat it.
