Abstract
The end-on and split configuration approach has been applied to seismic refraction survey in parts of Ugbomro to ascertain the subsurface lithologic profiles. Three seismic surveys were conducted with maximum profile length of 100m in Ugbomro primary health center, FUPRE sport center and FUPRE student hostel area. Acquired data (picked arrival time) were plotted against receivers positions to ascertain three layer time-distance curve who's slopes were calculated and inverted to estimate the layer velocities as a function of depth. The three velocity layer ranges are 244.3 – 297.2m/s for the first layer, 366.7 – 439.2m/s and 729.8 – 776.0m/s for second and third velocity layers respectively. The three delineated layers were inferred lithologically, as unconsolidated loose top sandy soil, sand and clay soil as the subsurface facie investigated. Values of different parameters (bulk modulus, young modulus, density, p-wave, s-wave, Poisson ratio) for the two traverses were determined which reveals information about the study area with respect to the geo-technicality of the study area.
