Broken Home, Sexual Harassment and Psychological Adjustment Among Public Secondary School Students in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigated broken home, sexual harassment and psychological adjustment among public secondary school students in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. To guide this study, five research questions were formulated. The sample of the study consist of two hundred and fifty (250) respondents, randomly selected from a population of 25,688 students in twenty four secondary government schools in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. The questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection and the data generated was analysed using descriptive statistics of Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). After the data analysis, the following findings emerged; there is significant relationship among broken homes, sexual harassment and psychological adjustment of secondary school students in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State, there is significant relationship between broken homes and psychological adjustment of secondary school students in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State, there is significant relationship between sexual harassment and psychological adjustment of secondary school students in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State, there is significant relationship between broken homes, sexual harassment and psychological adjustment of secondary school students based on gender in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State as well as there is significant relationship between broken homes, sexual harassment and psychological adjustment of secondary school students based on age in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State. From the findings of the study, it was recommended that there is need to establish counselling services in schools to provide support for students from broken homes and those experiencing sexual harassment, to help them cope with psychological distress, there is need to implement parenting programs for parents/guardians to equip them with skills to manage their relationships and provide a stable home environment for their children as well as there is need to integrate comprehensive sexual education into the school curriculum to educate students about healthy relationships, consent, and boundaries.
