Abstract
River water quality is a key concern as it is used for drinking and domestic purpose, irrigation and aquatic life including fish and fisheries. The Elemi River is one of the most prominent central rivers in Ado Ekiti. The river can play a vital role to contribute to the development of social economic structure in Ado Ekiti. The study was conducted to assess the physical and chemical water quality parameters of Elemi River. The water sample was collected in a plastic container and was transported to Chemistry laboratory, Federal University Oye Ekiti for analysis. A number of physiochemical water quality parameters including Temperature, pH, EC, TDS, DO, BOD, COD, TS, TH and TA were measured in laboratory base analysis. The mean value of such respective parameters in both season were compared with the water quality standards as set by the World Health Organization (WHO). The values obtained after the analysis are, temperature (29°C), BOD (3.40m/L), DO (8.50mg/L), TDS (140.25mg/L), pH (7.53), EC (1.96×10²), Turbidity (0.03NTU), total alkalinity (105.00mg/L), total hardness (123.00mg/L), total solids (155.30mg/L) and the mean value for total plate count for microbial analysis was 0.43×10².
