Assessing the Executive and Legislative Capacity of Wamakko Local Government on Service Delivery in Sokoto State

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study attempt to assess the executive and legislative capacity of Wamakko Local Government of Sokoto State in the delivery of services to its local populace. the concerns of this study is to what extent do the levels of executive and legislative capacity affect the levels service delivery of Wamakko Local Government of Sokoto State? The study generated targeted 300 respondents through questionnaire instrument. Results indicate that the levels of executive and legislative capacity have significantly affected the level of service delivery in Wamakko Local Government Area. The study recommend that, efforts should be intensified to make sure that only those that are competent and have the people at heart are elected to represent the citizens at the local government level. Also, regular periodic elections are necessary to avoid the usual imposition of Caretaker Committees that always play the tune of the State government instead of formulating and implementing policies and programmes that are masses oriented. Similarly, the legislative arm of the local government should perform its oversight functions in terms of project planning, monitoring, and control as provided for by the principle of checks and balances.
