Abstract
Nutrient composition in three locations of Qua Iboe River in Ikot Ekpene, were analyzed using standard methods and their temporal variations were presented and discussed. The parameters investigated included nitrates, phosphates, sulphates, and chlorides. The results of the analysis showed that Nitrate ranged from 33.73±0.014, 32.96±0.020, 34.32±0.015 for June 2024, 36.91±0.020, 34.68±0.015 and 43.11±0.012mg/l for July 2024. Sulphate ranged from 7.63±0.005mg/l, 8.63±0.003mg/l, 9.26±0.004mg/l for June 2024, 13.68±0.005mg/l, 14.46±0.005mg/l and 15.11±0.006mg/l for July 2024, Phosphate ranges from 9.96±0.004mg/L, 11.62±0.006mg/L, 12.03±0.008mg/l for June 2024, 11.85±0.005mg/l, 13.37±0.011mg/l and 14.60±0.007mg/l for July 2024 and Chlroide (25.56±0.001 - 29.16±0.001mg/l for the month of June 2024. These results were compared with water quality standards of World Health Organization (WHO) and variations revealed that the water was not potable. This wide contamination could be as a result of the geology of the area coupled with increased anthropogenic activities going on in the study area.
