Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the knowledge and perceptions of Health Information Management (HIM) practitioners regarding the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in OAUTHC, Osun State. The specific objectives were assessed and they are the level of knowledge and perception AI among health information management practitioners, the role of AI in health information management practices among health information management practitioners and the barrier to adoption and successful implementation of Al among HIM practitioners in health information management practice. Relevant literatures were consulted which was sourced from local libraries and online journals. This study employed descriptive research survey. Total enumeration was adopted for the study. A total number of 120 copies of questionnaire were administered and 109 was retrieved for analysis given a response rate of 91%. Data was analyzed using frequency percentage, mean and standard deviation with the aid of statistical package for socio sciences ( SPSS version 20.0). This study reviewed that nearly half understood AI's potential in health information management (48.6%), with confidence in its integration (45.9%) but concerns about job impacts (37.6%). They recognized AI's role in enhancing efficiency (48.6%), accuracy (54.1%), aiding decision-making (61.5%), and automating tasks (56.0%). Barriers to adoption included interoperability issues (54.1%), cultural resistance (52.3%), and cost constraints (61.5%). This study concluded that there is a positive attitude towards AI among HIM practitioners at OAUTHC, significant challenges such as interoperability issues, cultural resistance, and financial constraints need to be addressed to effectively integrate AI technologies into healthcare information management practices. Overcoming these barriers will be crucial for leveraging the potential benefits of AI in improving efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making in healthcare delivery. It therefore recommended that continuous professional development, infrastructure investment, and strategic cultural change management, will overcome barriers and maximize the benefit of AI in health information management.
