Compensation and Employee Performance in an Organization (a Case Study of Nigeria Breweries Ltd.)

Abstract
ABSTRACT This research project was carried out with a view to determine the effects of compensation on employees’ performance in an organization. Compensation is a very important aspect of personnel management. A business man who wants to be successful in business need not overlook this important part of human resources. In order to know the effect and how it affects employee’s performance, the researcher picked Nigeria Breweries Ltd. as a case study. Concentrating on a single company was necessary to enable the researcher carry out a thorough job and also maximize the use of limited time available. In view of this, instruments were used for the collection of data which include questionnaire and personal interview. Data collected were presented and subjected to analysis using simple percentage method. The testing of hypothesis shows that employees see wages/salaries as a method of compensation. In view of the findings recommendations were made. Employees attach importance to wages/salaries as a motivating factor or compensation method, also jobs must be compared and their relative worth assessed to correspond with a fair and sound basic pay structure.
