Design and Construction of a Single-Phase Transformer Mimic Panel for Educational and Experimental Applications

ABSTRACT This project, titled "Design and Construction of a Single-Phase Transformer MimicPanelfor Educational and Experimental Applications," addresses the need for practical, hands-ontraining tools in electrical engineering education. The mimic panel allows students toengagewith real-world transformer concepts, including voltage transformation, current flow, andelectromagnetic induction, in a controlled environment. The panel features a hand-wound 500VA transformer, capable of demonstratingstep-up, step-down, and buffer configurations. It includes analog voltmeters, ammeters, and toggleswitchesfor real-time measurements and operational control, as well as an overload protectionsystemtoensure safe experimentation. All components are mounted on an aluminumcompositepanelandenclosed in a wooden frame for durability and portability. Testing was conducted under no-load, load, and short-circuit conditions to evaluateefficiencyand performance. Although the trainer successfully demonstrated key concepts, someinefficiencies were noted due to the hand-wound transformer, which affectedperformanceconsistency. Instrument calibration was performed to ensure accuracy in measurements. In conclusion, the project created an effective educational tool for transformer training. Futureimprovements include using machine-wound transformers and digital measurement toolstoenhance precision and reduce performance discrepancies, providing students with a morereliablelearning platform.
