Abstract

The study was conducted on the Isolation and Identification of Microorganisms Associated with the Spoilage of Tomatoes Sold in Tarauni Market in Kano State. The objective of the study is to identify the types of microorganisms present in tomatoes. To determine the microorganisms that triggers the Spoilages tomatoes in Tarauni Market of Kano State. To assess the identified microorganisms of tomatoes Spoilage. The research was carried out in Biology Laboratory, School of Technology, Kano State Polytechnic Kano. A total of 10 tomato samples were collected from Tarauni markets in Kano State. The sampling technique was a random sampling method, which ensured the selection of representative tomatoes from different Trader in the market. Each tomato sample was washed with sterile distilled water to remove surface dirt. The tomatoes were then weighed, and a portion of the tomato flesh was aseptically removed using a sterile scalpel. The study recommended Improved Hygiene Practices: Vendors and market authorities should ensure better sanitation practices in the handling, storage, and display of tomatoes to minimize microbial contamination. Public Awareness: Awareness campaigns should be conducted to educate both vendors and consumers about the risks of microbial contamination and the importance of proper food handling practices.
