Effects of Street Hawking on Girls’ Child Education in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of street hawking on Girl - Child Education in Dala Local Government area, Kano state; five research questions and five objectives were developed to guide the study, descriptive survey design was adopted in the study, 3284 teenage girls from 8 secondary schools made up the population were used as the population of the study, a sample 264 was drafted using Yamane Formula. The findings of study revealed that poverty and need of money for preparation of weddings are the main causes of street hawking among teenage girls, Cassava and Maize hawking are the main types of commodities teenage girls hawk on the street, secondary level of education is the highest level of education acquires by teenage girls who engage, getting unwanted pregnancy, increase level of illiteracy and exposure to diseases are the major negative effect of street hawking among teenage girls in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State. The study revealed that there is need for government to create more job opportunities so that citizens would be employed to enable then cater for family needs, Government should make education free at all levels so that the less privileged children would have the opportunity to be educated and Government should legislate against involving children of school age in hawking and punish parent, guardian and caregiver who go against it
