Abstract
This study investigates the adoption of Natural Generative Language (NGL) tools and the use of online library services among Library and Information Science (LIS) students at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA). With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and digital platforms, understanding how students interact with emerging technologies is crucial for improving information service delivery and academic performance. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and collected data through structured questionnaires administered to LIS students. Findings revealed a moderate level of awareness and utilization of NGL tools such as ChatGPT, along with an increasing dependence on online library services for academic research and information retrieval. However, challenges such as limited digital literacy, poor internet connectivity, and lack of institutional support were identified as key barriers. The study concludes that while students recognize the potential of NGL tools and online services, more effort is needed in capacity building and infrastructure enhancement. Recommendations include the integration of AI literacy into the LIS curriculum and the provision of stable internet and user support systems to enhance effective adoption and usage.
