Accessibility, Use, Misuse and Effects of Emergency Contraceptive Pills Among Undergraduates of the University of Benin

Abstract
The study seeks to investigate the level of Accessibility, use, misuse and effects of emergency contraceptive pills among students of the University of Benin. In order that the objective in this research work might be achieved, Four (4) research questions were raised and there was a review of literatures related to the study, The survey research research design was used for this study and the population consisted of 82,716 undergraduates in the university of Benin. A total of one hundred and twenty five (125) students were selected as sample for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed and interpreted using simple frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Based on the data collected It was discovered that undergraduates where able to properly access Emergency contraceptive Pills In pharmacies and health centers within and around the University of Benin also the study discovered that there is a positive attitude of undergraduates towards using emergency contraceptives after engaging in unprotected intercourse or contraceptive Failure in the University of Benin. Finally it was discovered that undergraduates of the University of Benin sometimes engage in harmful practices of using emergency contraceptive pills improperly, like not following the correct timing and dosage of the pills. This study recommends reproductive health education at the University level, health care providers and pharmacists to provide accurate information and guidance to students using Ecps, improving access to contraceptive services confidentially and judgment free and public awareness campaigns to address social stigma and misinformation about Emergency contraceptive Pills.
