Abstract

ABSTRACT The efficacy of Senna occidentalis leaf powder in the control of adult Callosobruchus maculatus was evaluated in this study with aims of determine the level of adult mortality of Callosobruchus maculatus, to assess the number of progeny production and number of damage and undamaged seeds. The Senna occidentalis leaves was dried under the shade for one week and grounded into powder using pestle and mortar and seived with 0.5 mesh. The grounded powder were weighed varying concentration in grams of 5g, 10g and 15g as a T2, T3 and T4 while 0g was a T1 (control). 100g of cowpea was mixed Senna occidentalis leaf powder then adult insect was introduced into cowpea containing plant leaves powder in a bottle. The mortality, number of survival, progeny and weight loss of cowpea was recorded for 24, 48 and 72 hours.
