Abstract
The aim of the study is to investigate the knowledge and practice of oral hygiene among staff of school of engineering and engineering technology (SEET) FUTO with respect to their knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP). The research employed a descriptive cross-sectional survey approach to gather information from a randomly chosen sample of School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) encompassing academic, non-academic and technologist representing both genders. The participants of this study comprise of 90 individuals, 10 from each department. This was achieved by administering a standardized pretested closed-ended questionnaire. Furthermore, in order to validate the hypotheses formulated for the study, the chi-square statistical method and ANOVA method of regression was utilized as a means to examine the potential relationships between the perception of oral hygiene and various demographic factors. As a critical step in assessing the validity of the hypotheses, the p-values were obtained through these statistical analyses. Upon examining the findings, it is evident that the statistical results emphasize the minimal role of gender in influencing the perceptions of oral hygiene among the SEET staff. The low R-squared values, high p- values, and insignificant F-statistic collectively indicate that gender is not a prominent factor influencing these perceptions. While the survey results reflected generally high scores in the sections concerning knowledge, attitude, and practice, some minor inconsistencies were identified. The findings suggest there is a need to improve the oral hygiene knowledge, attitude and practices among SEET staff.
