The Availability and Usability of Computer in State and Private Secondary Schools in Ado-Ekiti

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study assessed the availability and usability of computers in teaching state and private Secondary Schools in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design while the study population comprised 5 secondary schools in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The sample consisted of two (2) randomly selected secondary schools and fifty (50) teachers drawn randomly from the study population. The instrument used to collect data for the study was a questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on the Availability and Usability of Computers in Teaching SSS II Science Classes” while the data collected was analyzed using mean and percentage. The findings revealed that computers are available but are not adequately utilized in state and Private Secondary Schools in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The null hypotheses developed for the study were accepted at 0.05 level of significance. The finding revealed that, there was no significant difference found between the responses of male and female teachers on the usability of computers by teachers in state and Private Secondary Schools in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The study recommended among others that there should be strict adherence to the use of computers in teaching SSS II Science Classes in state and Private Secondary Schools in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
