The Protective Effects of Vitamin E on Cadmium Induced Hepatotoxicity in Male Wistar Rat.

Abstract
Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal that induces oxidative stress and hepatotoxic effects. The liver, being a primary target organ, is particularly vulnerable to cadmium-induced damage, which can lead to impaired function and severe health implications. Vitamin E, an antioxidant, was administered to mitigate the toxic effects of cadmium. This study investigated the protective effects of vitamin E on cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity in male Wistar rats, with a focus on oxidative stress markers. Cadmium exposure is to cause oxidative stress and liver damage, leading to alterations in liver function parameters and antioxidant defence systems. Thirty-five male wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups. Cadmium and vitamin E were administered to the rats and hepatotoxicity was assessed through biochemical and histopathological evaluation The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of vitamin E on cadmium- induced hepatotoxicity in male wistar rats, evaluating oxidative stress markers such as glutathione(GSH), glutathione disulfide (GSSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione S-transferase (GST). The results showed that cadmium exposure caused significant alterations in liver function parameters and oxidative stress markers, including decreased GSSH, and GST levels. Vitamin E supplementation mitigated these effects, improving liver function and reducing oxidative stress. In conclusion, the study demonstrates the protective effects of vitamin E on cadmium induced hepatotoxicity in male wistar rats, highlighting the importance of oxidative stress markers in evaluating liver damage. The findings suggests that vitamin E may be a useful adjunct in preventing or treating cadmium-induced liver damage.
