Abstract
The study investigated the readiness and adoption of cloud computing technology for information service delivery in Bayero University, Kano . The research was conducted to determine the level of awareness of cloud computing technology among librarians, their perception of cloud computing, factors influencing the adoption of cloud computing in libraries, challenges and concerns in cloud computing technology adoption and measures taken to address the challenges. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A structured questionnaire was distributed among library staff to assess their awareness, preparedness, and willingness to adopt cloud computing, likewise an in-depth and structured interview with the university librarian provided an expert insight into institutional policies and strategic considerations. The population of the study consisted of 126 librarians, and a sample size of 92 was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages. The study found that librarians at Bayero University, Kano have a moderate level of awareness of cloud computing, and they perceive cloud computing positively as it can enhance their productivity and improve user satisfaction. The study also found that factors such as lack of technical expertise, inadequate funding, and fear of job loss were the major hindrances to cloud computing adoption in libraries. Finally, the study recommends that library management should provide adequate training and development programs to enhance the technical expertise of librarians and encourage the adoption of cloud computing in libraries.
