Abstract
ABSTRACT The rapid growth of electronic payments in Nigeria has underscored the need for more robust security measures to protect against increasing cyber threats. Traditional authentication methods, such as passwords and PINs, have proven inadequate in addressing these challenges, necessitating the adoption of more advanced techniques. This project explores the potential of bio-modal authentication systems – specifically fingerprint and iris recognition – to enhance the security and efficiency of electronic payment systems in Nigeria. By leveraging these unique and difficult-to-replicate biological traits, bio-modal systems offer a higher level of protection against fraud and unauthorized access while also streamlining the transaction process. The study examines the current landscape of electronic payments in Nigeria, evaluates the effectiveness of fingerprint and IRIS – based authentication methods, and proposes strategies for integrating these technologies into the existing financial infrastructure. The findings suggest that implementing improved bio-modal systems can significantly reduce security risks, increase user confidence, and foster the continued growth of digital finance in Nigeria.
