The Roles of Small and Medium Scale Enterprise on Job Creation in Ekiti State

Abstract
The study investigates the role of small and medium scale enterprises in job creation in Ekiti State. Specifically, the study investigated the effect of human capital development; entrepreneurship orientation and capacity building on job creation in Ekiti State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised the small and medium scale enterprises owners in Ekiti State. The sample size was 325. Primary data used for the study were gathered through the administration of structured questionnaire. Data gathered were analysed using multiple regression. The study found that human capital development has significant effect on job creation; the study also found that entrepreneurship orientation has significant job creation; Furthermore, the study found that inadequate capacity building has significant effect on job creation. The study concluded that all the constructs of the explanatory variables which are capacity building, entrepreneurship orientation and human capital development significantly affects job creation in Ekiti State.
