Role of Community Newspapers in Creating Political Awareness in Iree Town

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of community newspapers on political awareness in Iree town, Osun State, Nigeria. The research aims to assess the effectiveness of community newspapers in informing, educating, and engaging citizens on local political issues, policies, and participation. While (400) copies of questionnaire were administered to the respondents using purposive sampling method. The data collected were analysed and interpreted using a table coupled with a simple frequency and percentage method of statistics. Findings reveal that, Iree town in Boripe Local Government have access to the community newspaper that community newspapers attract development and investment for the interest of Iree community and that community newspaper is highly effective in getting information to the people Iree town. The study recommends that:(i)There should be more newspapers especially community newspaper to serve different taste and language of the community people. (ii) Newspapers should be free from few influential politicians avoid turning the paper into tools of propaganda and (iii) The price of the newspaper should be relative cheap to enable rural dwellers buy a least a copy.
