Abstract
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to determine the antibacterial activity of honey against clinical isolates of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria samples were collected from Yusuf Dantsosho hospital, subcultured and reconfirmed. Bacterial Isolates were identified based on their cultural, microscopically and biochemical characteristics. The antibacterial activity of the honey was significant against the clinical isolates,In all the isolates, zone of inhibition was recorded at a honey concentration of 100 mg/ml,while the lowest zone of inhibition was recorded at honey concentration of 25mg/ml. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of the honey was observed at 50mg/ml against Escherichia coli and at 25mg/ml concentration against Staphylococcus aureus, this shows that Staphylococcus is more susceptible to honey activities. The Minimum bactericidal concentration was observed at 50mg/ml concentration for both organisms. The result of the study reveals that honey is a good antibacterial substance which can be used to combat diseases caused by these bacteria.
