Abstract
Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia resulting from insulin dysfunction. Anthropometric indices such as body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are critical in assessing obesity-related diabetes risks. This study aimed to compare the anthropometric characteristics of male and female diabetic patients attending Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano. A crosssectional study was conducted among 200 diabetic patients (100 males, 100 females) selected through simple random sampling. Anthropometric data were collected following standardized procedures and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 27. The findings revealed significant gender differences in body composition. Males had a higher WHR (0.92±0.07) compared to females (0.91±0.10), while females exhibited a higher BMI (24.92±5.80) than males (24.39±4.61).
