Implication of Drugs Abuse in Chiranchi Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State

Abstract
Majority of drug abusers are males (90%) and youth (92.5%) who are working population (62.5%). Friends and family introduce youth to drug abuse, with 45% getting money from friends, 27.5% from family, and 12.5% from personal savings. Cigarettes, marijuana, and tablets are most commonly abused, with 57.5% using drugs for pleasure, 20% for medication, and 17.5% for energizing. Drug abuse affects physical and mental health, relationships, and daily life, with 47.5% believing it affects their body, and 52.5% saying they are not affected, but their behavior and appearance suggest otherwise. Duration of drug abuse ranges from 1-4 years (17.5%) to over 12 years (10%), with 35% spending over 1000 naira daily. Drug abuse leads to unemployment, marital problems, and crime, with friends and family playing a significant role in introducing youth to drug abuse. Cigarettes are the most commonly abused drug, followed by marijuana and tablets. The findings suggest that drug abuse is a significant problem among youth in Kano Municipal, with far-reaching consequences for their health, relationships, and daily life.
