Abstract
Abstract This study examines the socio-economic impacts of begging and destitution in Gwale Local Government Area, Kano State. The research aims to identify the causes, patterns, and consequences of begging on both individuals and the wider community. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected through questionnaires and interviews from residents, beggars, and local authorities. The findings reveal that poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and family disintegration are major drivers of begging, while its consequences include increased dependency, reduced productivity, and social stigmatization. The study recommends the implementation of sustainable poverty alleviation programs, skills acquisition initiatives, and social welfare policies to curb the prevalence of begging and promote inclusive socio-economic development in the area.
