Abstract
ABSTRACT This study presents the design and construction of a manually operated seed sowing machine, aiming to improve the efficiency and accuracy of seed sowing in agricultural practices in Nigeria. The machine is designed to simplify the sowing process, reducing labor costs and increasing crop yields in agriculture. The machine's design consists of a seed hopper, metering system, furrow opener, and seed covering mechanism. The machine is operated manually, utilizing a handle to rotate a shaft that meters and drops seeds at uniform intervals. The design allows for adjustable seed spacing and depth, accommodating various crop types. Prototype testing demonstrated accurate seed placement, reduced seed wastage, and increased sowing speed compared to traditional methods. This manually operated seed sowing machine offers a cost-effective and sustainable solution for small-scale farmers, promoting precision agriculture and enhancing food security.
