Causes of Unemployment Among Youth in Nigeria (a Case Study of National Directorate of Employment)

Abstract
ABSTRACT The research work focuses on causes of unemployment among youth in Nigeria. The objective of this study is aimed at determining examine the causes of youth unemployment in Nigeria, highlight various policies and programmes put in place by the Government to curb unemployment, assess the National Directorate of Employment and find out problems (if any) hindering the effective performance of the directorate and provide possible solutions. The researcher made use of primary data. A structured questionnaire designed by the researcher was used to collect data.. The result of the study revealed that there are policies and programmes being put in place by government in order to curb the menace of youth unemployment in Nigeria particularly National Directorate. It was recommended among others that diversification of the Economy should be encouraged Nigeria should cease from relying entirely on oil whose price fluctuates according to the world market. Agriculture, ICT, Hospitality and Entertainment are other promising avenue for Nigeria to diversify her economy.
