The Influence of Excessive Alcohol Intake Among Teenagers in Sabon-Gari Community of Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examined the influence of excessive alcohol intake among teenagers in Sabon-Gari community, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted, and 150 respondents aged 13–19 were selected using purposive and simple random sampling. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with frequency tables and chi-square. Findings revealed that 68% of teenagers in the area consume alcohol, with peer pressure (42%), curiosity (31%), and family influence (18%) as major drivers. Excessive intake was linked to poor academic performance (75%), aggressive behavior (62%), and health complications (58%). The study recommends intensified public enlightenment, stricter enforcement of age restrictions on alcohol sales, and establishment of youth counseling centers in the community.
