Abstract
The study was conducted to "An Assessment on the Awareness of Rabies Vaccination Among Dog Owners in Ungogo Local Government Kano State" so as to know the efficacy of the vaccine. Rabies is a highly fatal viral disease than cause acute encephalitis (inflammation of brain) in warm blooded animal. It is zoonotic in nature lie. Transmitted by animal to human. Most commonly by bite from an infected animal. For human rabies is almost invariably fatal if posh-exposure prophylaxis is not administrated prior to onset of severe symptoms'. The information in the table above 68 (68%) respondent to they are aware with rabies vaccine which 32 (32%) respondents they are a not aware with rabies vaccines. The various response of the respondents on the confinements of their dog when suffering from rabies disease (54%) of among dogs keeper, restrict dog movement when even they notice some symptoms of the rabies disease. While those who are not confine them dog while suffering from rabies disease this because due to lack of awareness of the rabies disease it zoonotic effect also recorded (46%) in the above table. Table five about (86%) respondents kept indigenous breeds of dogs while (29%) respondents kept exotic breed for various reason especially for security purposes. A through description of rabies epidemiology on a comprehensive surveillance programme and application of accurate molecular method to discriminate among different variants and the emergence of new foci. The study concluded the majority of the dog owners were able to vaccinate their dogs against rabies 61 (61%) most of those that do not carry out the vaccination 39 (39%) were due to the lack of awareness of the vaccine and dangers associated with rabies infection to public health
