Architectural Design of a Poultry Farm in Nachi Udi L.g.a, Enugu State

Abstract This study addresses the challenges of poultry farming in Nachi Udi Local Government Area, where insufficient local production has led to high dependency on external sources, increased costs, and limited availability of fresh poultry products. The absence of modern agricultural infrastructure, including climate-responsive designs, efficient spatial planning, and sustainable architectural practices, further hampers productivity and increases disease risks. To solve these issues, the study proposes a modern poultry farm in Nachi, integrating architectural solutions such as optimized ventilation, temperature control, efficient waste management, and functional zoning to enhance local production and sustainability. Through primary data from site visits, interviews, and observations, alongside secondary data from literature reviews and case studies, the research identifies key strategies for improving efficiency. Findings highlight the importance of biosecurity measures, cross-ventilation, and proper spatial organization in optimizing poultry operations. The study concludes that implementing these architectural interventions will improve productivity, reduce dependency on external supply, and enhance sustainability. It recommends adopting bio-secure layouts, renewable energy sources, and effective farm zoning to ensure long-term efficiency and disease control.
