Impact of Information Booklet on Knowledge of Hypertension Among Secondary School Teachers

Abstract
Introduction: Hypertension is a cardiovascular disorder that imposes risk of diseases on multiple system, failure to control hypertension leads to patients to end up with unavoidable complications which may lead to death. Materials and Methods: 1 research design used for the study was pre-experimental study design one group pre-lest post-lest to assess the impact of information-booklet on knowledge of hypertension and its prevention among secondary School teachers. Results: The results showed that majority of the participants were aged between 31 and 35 jears, 17 (37.0%), folowed by those aged 26 to 30 years, 13 (28.3%) and ≥ 36 years, 13 (28.3%), with the least representation from the 20-25 years' age group, 3 (6.5%). In pre-test 71.0% respondents had adequate knowledge, 26 (56.5%) had moderate knowledge and 13(28.3%) had inadequare knowledge, while in post-test 28 had adequate knowledge, 16 had moderate knowledge and 2 had inadequate knowledge regarding hypertension which accounted for 60.9%, 34.8%, and 4.3% respectively. Therefore, the information-booklet was very effective because there is improvement in level of knowledge. The mean post-test (15.00) was higher than mean pre-test (11.91), with standard deviation of 2.440 and 2.308 which was statistically significant, indicating that information-booklet was effective in improving the knowledge regarding hypertension among the respondents.
