Abstract
This study explores the relationship between parenting styles and the socialization processes of children in Uyo Local Government Area (L.G.A.), Akwa Ibom State. The research aims to identify the most common parenting styles practiced by families in the region, examine how these styles influence the social behavior of children, and understand the role of socio-economic status in shaping parenting practices and children's socialization outcomes. A sample of 400 participants, comprising parents from various socio-economic backgrounds, was selected through a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, which gathered information on demographic characteristics, parenting styles, children’s social behaviors, and socio-economic status. The study employed descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze the data, with findings presented in tables and discussed in relation to the research questions. The study concludes by recommending strategies to enhance positive parenting practices, including the promotion of authoritative parenting, increased parental involvement, and community-based parenting workshops. These recommendations aim to improve the socialization outcomes of children in Uyo L.G.A. and contribute to the overall well-being of families in the region.
