Manpower Development and Academic Staff Development in Ekiti State University

Abstract
ABSTRACT The escalating concerns over the perceived decline in academic standards necessitate anexamination of the intricate interplay between manpower development and academic staffeffectiveness in Ekiti State University. This study,therefore,investigated the relationshipbetween manpower development and academic effectiveness in Ekiti-State University.Three purposes guided the study with corresponding tio research questions and fourhypotheses.The study adopted descriptive survey rescarch design to unravel the nuanceddynamics. The population consists of 30 Heads of Departments and 120 lecturers in EkitiState University, reflecting a homogenous characteristic essential for the study's coherence.A sample of 150 lecturers from 9 faculties was selected using proportionate stratifiedrandom sampling, encompassing both senior and junior lecturers. The research instrumentsused for data collection were two researcher-designed questionnaire. The questionnaireswere titled Manpower Development Questionnaire (MDQ) and the Academic StaffEffectiveness Questionnaire (ASEQ). The MDQ delved into the various facets ofmanpower development, while the ASEQ probed into the multifaceted dimensions ofacademic staff effectiveness.The instruments exhibited strong validity, confirmed throughface and content validation, and commendable reliability with coefficients of 0.72 forMDQ and 0.83 for ASEQ.. The research questions were answered using descriptivestatistics such as percentage and mean while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level ofsignificance using inferential statistics of Pearson's Product Moment Correlation.Findingsshowed that there was significant relationship between seminar participation and academicstaff effectiveness (r=0.410, p
