Abstract
Adoption is a legal matter pursuant to statute in which a child's legal rights and duties towards his natural parents are terminated and such rights and duties transferred to his adoptive parents. This project aims to examine the legal framework of adoption in Nigeria, focusing on the primary legislation governing the adoption process. The project will explore the key provisions of the act, including the procedures and requirements for adoption, the role of the competent court, and the importance of consent from biological parents or legal guardians. The project will employ a quantitative research approach, utilizing primary and secondary sources such as the child rights act, adoption laws and case laws. The findings of this project will contribute to a better understanding of the legal framework of adoption in Nigeria, highlighting its strengths and areas for improvement. By ensuring a transparent and child centered adoption process, it is expected that the legal framework will effectively protect the right and welfare of children, while also proving a clear and efficient process for prospective and adoptive parents.
