Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigated the awareness, utilization, and attitude of computer science teachers and students toward Web-Based Discussion Tools (WBDT) in tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. The study aimed to assess the level of awareness and extent of utilization of WBDT, as well as examine the attitudes of teachers and students toward their use. The literature review provided insights into existing research on WBDT, highlighting their significance in modern education and identifying gaps in awareness and usage. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised computer science teachers and students in selected tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. A total of 200 students and 50 teachers participated, selected using a multistage sampling technique. A structured questionnaire served as the research instrument, and its reliability was established through a pilot study, yielding a high reliability coefficient. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation, while inferential statistics, including Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation, were used to examine relationships between awareness and utilization. Findings revealed that both students and teachers had low awareness and utilization of WBDT, despite demonstrating a positive attitude toward their use. The study also found a significant correlation between awareness and utilization, indicating that increased awareness could improve adoption. Based on these findings, the study recommended increased institutional efforts to enhance awareness, improved internet accessibility, and the integration of WBDT into teaching and learning practices.
