Abstract
This study investigated staff management practices and organizational performance in Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, Nigeria. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, three hypotheses were formulated. Variables delineated in the hypotheses include workers professional development, supportive work environment and staff recognition and rewards. The study adopted the Cross-sectional survey design. A total sample of 100 respondents were selected from the population of the study that mainly comprised of administrative and academic staff of Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, Nigeria. This was determined using purposively sampling technique. A well-structured questionnaire was the research instrument used in data collection. The three hypotheses formulated were tested using chi-square statistical tool tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that workers professional development, supportive work environment and staff recognition and rewards was significantly related to organizational performance. Base on these findings it was recommended among others that, the College should establish a structured and continuous professional development programme that aligns with the specific needs of its employees. This could include regular training sessions, workshops, seminars, and opportunities for further education. Additionally, the College should implement a mentoring system where experienced staff members can guide and support newer employees, fostering a culture of learning and growth and also that the College should focus on creating a work environment that promotes employee well-being, open communication, and collaboration. This could involve establishing clear communication channels where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas, concerns, and feedback without fear of retribution.
