Local Government Autonomy and Grassroots Development (a Case Study of Etsako West Local Government Area

Abstract
This study examines "Local Government Autonomy and Grass Root
Development. The objectives are to examine the relationship between
local government staffs dedication to duty and development of rural area
and investigate the relationship between geographical location and
development of local government. The population of study was one
hundred and twenty (120) respondents and sample size of the study was
one hundreds (100) respondents. The study made use of chi-square and
linear regression method of data analysis. The finding revealed that there
is significant relationship between local staff's dedication to duty and
development of rural area. That there is signifcant relationship between
geographical location and development of local government. The study
recommended than the structure of intergovernnental transfers should be
strengthened for better allocation of public resources. Government
should develop a sustainable framework for coordination among the
three levels of government in Nigeria. Deployment issues and
interference by political parties should be stopped within local
gOvernment themselves.
