Strike Action: a Tool for Achieving Organizational Goals (a Case of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (asup), Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Imo State)

The study scrutinizes the Strike Action a Tool for Achieving Organizational Goals
using ASUP in Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Imo State as a case study. In
practice however, it has been difficult to separate strike from other forms of
expression of industrial dispute as employer lock out workers and workers themselves
embark on strike action. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were
laid out to assess the essence of strike action that exists in an organization, evaluate
the level of assistance by the management of every organization to realize their lapses
and wake-up to their responsibilities as to put things right where things have gone
wrong and highlight the various objectives function of the organization as well as its
problems. The research design used in this report is descriptive design, utilizing
questionnaire method to obtain information from the respondents for this project.
Primary sources of data were employed secondary data sources i.e. textbooks,
journals, newspapers and the Internet were employed. It will also help the
government parastatals towards solving these employees' grievances. The researcher
also observed that the strike action should be the last resort in achieving the demand
of a group. Finally, the management should try to avert the cause of strike by settling
at the latent stage. Perpetual dialogue should be placed side by side where there is
continuous strike.
