Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the differences between stage and film acting, focusing on the unique techniques, skills, and audience engagement associated with each medium. This study employed a descriptive survey research design guided by four research questions. The target population included 100 professional actors in Nigeria with experience in both stage and film acting, selected through purposive sampling. A structured 20-item questionnaire, validated by experts in the field, served as the primary instrument for data collection. Reliability was ensured through a pilot test and the use of Cronbach’s Alpha. Data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. The findings reveal that stage acting emphasizes exaggerated physicality, vocal projection, and live audience interaction, while film acting prioritizes subtle expressions, technical precision, and adaptability to camera work. The study also highlights the need for cross-training, as actors benefit from refining skills tailored to each medium. Key challenges include inadequate training programmes and limited access to specialized resources for stage and film acting. Recommendations include developing comprehensive training curricula for actors, providing resources to enhance technical and performance skills, and promoting collaborative workshops to bridge the gap between stage and film acting. These measures are expected to empower actors with the versatility needed to deliver compelling performances across both media.
