Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research adopts a feminist discourse on selected Facebook poems. Several researches have focused on feminist subjects while criticizing literary texts in the different genres of literature, the present study differs in interest as it analyses the feminist perspective brought forth by a select number of poems on Facebook. Feminist criticism serves as the theoretical framework of this research. Its foci are, the female experiences, the woman question, and the adverse effects of male chauvinism, as it explores topics like education for the girl child, gender discrimination, the constraint brought forth by religion, and abuse. Through the analysis of the selected poems, the study showcases the poets as carriers of hope and justice. Their tone carries an in-depth belief that the future holds great things for the girl child if given the opportunity. This study equally presents Facebook as a great tool for spreading and ensuring the actualization of feminist beliefs through writings (Facebook posts), hence it considers Facebook a good and sustainable source of literature as it provides a platform where everyone can be heard, allows for community building etc. The study concludes that Facebook has proven to be a conduit for the exploration of compelling issues such as those pertaining to the concept of feminism.
