Abstract
ABSTRACT
The socioeconomic effects of population growth in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, are multifaceted,
presenting both opportunities and challenges for the city's development. This paper explores these
effects, highlighting the potential for economic growth and labor market expansion alongside the
risks of infrastructure strain, unemployment, and pressure on social services.
Stratified random samplings were employed to administer 90 copies of questionnaire among
inhabitant of Ado Ekiti. Stratified random sampling is employed when dealing with large numbers
of people, the procedure involved making selection from some set of people faced by the same
problem in other to know the total view and the problem confronting the entire population as result
of population growth.
The study delve into the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents such age and sex
composition, religion, educational attainment, occupation, marital status. Socio-economic effects
of population growth in Ado-Ekiti, relationship between population growth and economic
development, environmental consequences of rapid urban population growth and also policies that
balance population growth with sustainable resource use were studied in this study.
However, this growth also necessitates robust urban planning and infrastructure development to
prevent a decline in living standards. To harness the benefits of population growth, the city must
invest in education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability while promoting economic
diversification and job creation. By addressing these critical areas, Ado-Ekiti can transform
population growth into a catalyst for socioeconomic advancement, ensuring a prosperous and
sustainable future for its inhabitants.
