Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of ICT on students’ perceived performance in mathematics in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State. This study employed a quasi-experimental research method to explore the relationship between variables. A total of one hundred (100) respondents were selected for the study which formed the sample of the study. The selected students are those offering mathematics as subject. The schools were selected by simple random sampling. Stratified simple random sampling was used in selecting the students in each school. The Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) was used to collect the required data. The same instrument was used to collect data for the pre-test and the posttest. The MAT was developed by the researcher. It was a 20 item instrument that tested the student’s knowledge, comprehension, application and academic skills on working out short answer questions that was set on Mathematics topics. Three research questions was raised for the study and answered descriptively. Three research hypotheses were formulated for the study and tested using t-test of independent sample. Based on the data analysis, findings revealed that there was significant difference between the mean scores of Mathematics students taught using ICT and conventional methods. It was also revealed that there was no significant gender difference in mean performance of mathematics students taught using ICT strategy in secondary schools in Ikere LGA of Ekiti State. Lastly, it was revealed that there was no significant difference between the mean performance of mathematics students taught using ICT strategy in day and boarding senior secondary schools. The study recommends that the concept of ICT pedagogy should be duly enshrined in secondary schools, and that government should ensure that secondary school teachers are trained and retrained on the best pedagogical practices to enhance students’ performance most especially in Mathematics.
