Abstract
This study critically examines the impact of Hausa migrants on the socio-political structure of the Ogbomoso community between 1969 and 2010. Migration has long played a crucial role in the population, culture, and politics of various Nigerian communities, and Ogbomoso is no exception. The research examines the factors that motivated Hausa individuals to migrate to Ogbomoso such as trade, religion, and pursuing better livelihood opportunities. It further explores how their presence impacted social relations, political participation, traditional leadership structures, and between-group relations within the society. Using oral interviews, books, journals and scholarly literature, the study finds that while the Hausa migrants made Ogbomoso economically thriving through commerce and craftsmanship, they also developed political and cultural institutions that increasingly integrated into the host population. But the incorporation was one of collaboration and intermittent tension over issues of identity, representation, and authority over resources. Overall, the research concludes that the Hausa presence in Ogbomoso during this period made major contributions toward reshaping the socio-political landscape of the town, reflecting broader patterns of migration and inter-ethnic interaction in Nigerian post-colonial history.
