Challenges in the Management of Private Owned Hostel in Gidan Kwano Area Minna

There exist numerous challenges encountered in the management of houses and properties,
most especially where the occupiers do not care about the state of the housing where they live.
It is against this back drop that this research project titled “Assessment of the challenges in
the management of private owned hostels in Gidan Kwano Area.” was conceived.
Preliminaries to the study were formulated such as aim and objectives which are as follows;
To Identify types and pattern of hostel, To identify the management strategies adopted by
management firms and all other objectives which were formulated, statement of problem which
propelled the researcher, the scope which is limited to the study area; private owned hostels
in Gidan Kwano area etc. The method adopted for the collection of data was via
questionnaires, oral interviews and field survey, where the population studied were captured
using simple random sampling technique and data collected were analyzed, presented and
interpreted, The field survey revealed that most management problems emanate from
ignorance on the part of the students as well as the managing agent responsible for such
hostels. Therefore, the study recommends Students, Estate firms and landlords/caretakers to
work hard to mitigated the out-right wear and tear of hostels and as such give needed attention
to houses which call for repairs so as to enhance house performance, sustenance and economic
as well as use enjoyment of both landlords and students respectively.
