Effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation on Performance of Smes in Ekiti State

Abstract
The study examined the Effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation on Performance of SMEs in Ekiti
State. The study reviewed a number of studies to buttress its findings. Also, the study relied on a
number of theories which were reviewed in application to the study. The study employed a
descriptive research such as simple percentage, frequency and regression analysis in gathering
and analyzing data for the study. A sample of 50 SMEs in the study area was used for the study.
It was gathered that, entrepreneurial orientation has influence SMEs performance when
considering enterprise orientation as hallmark for excellence performance, orientation for
profitability in business, enterprise orientation in a modernized form, orientation for business
progress and orientation for business promotion as key factors. It was also revealed that,
entrepreneurial orientation give SMEs edge in a competitive situation. It shows that there is a
competitive advantage in enterprise orientation. Establishments with highly profile, high
performance and profitability, buoyancy of business depend largely of the level of orientation. It
is recommended that Managing board of every enterprise should conduct a periodical assessment
of its organizational orientation status in order to avoid being left behind or loosing advantage to
fellow competitors. Entrepreneurial orientation and enterprise performance/profitability,
therefore, are two pivotal and inseparable entities mandatory for business optimal performance
and profitability.
