Abstract
ABSTRACT
The high cost and seasonal scarcity of conventional feed ingredients such as maize and soybean meal pose a major challenge to sustainable goat production in Nigeria. This study evaluated the effect of graded levels of dried cassava peel inclusion on the growth performance and physiological indices of male Sokoto Red goats. Dried cassava peels, an abundant agro-industrial by-product rich in carbohydrates and fiber, were incorporated into formulated diets at varying levels: 0 kg, 5 kg, 7.5 kg, 12.5 kg, and 17.5 kg per feed mixture, replacing portions of the energy source. A total of fifteen (15) male Sokoto Red goats, aged 8–12 months, were randomly assigned into five treatment groups in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and fed for eight weeks under intensive management. Parameters assessed included feed intake, body weight, rectal temperature, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and pulse rate. Blood samples were also collected at the end of the feeding trial for hematological and biochemical analyses. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA with significance accepted at (p
