Abstract
This study examined the Impact of Discrimination and Stigmatization on the Academic Performance of Students with Hearing Disability in Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Nigeria. A sampled of 26 students were selected using a stratified random sampling technique to ensure fair representation across groups. Data was collected through structured questionnaires titled Impact of Discrimination and Stigmatization on the Academic Performance of Students with Hearing Disability Questionnaire (IDSAPSHDQ) and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Peason product moment correlation (PPMC). Findings revealed that students with hearing disabilities often experience discrimination and stigmatization, which negatively affect their academic motivation, self-esteem, classroom participation, and emotional well-being. However, the results from the PPMC test showed no statistically significant relationship between discrimination, stigmatization, and academic performance (r = -0.189, p = 0.370), leading to the retention of the null hypothesis. The study concludes that addressing discrimination and stigmatization through inclusive policies, awareness campaigns, and support systems is essential for fostering an equitable learning environment. It recommends proactive institutional interventions to ensure that students with hearing disabilities are not only accommodated but also empowered to thrive academically.
