Cassia occidentalis is an annual or perennial Ayurvedic plant which is used in several traditional medicines to cure various diseases. This weed has been known to possessant ibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, anticancerous, antimutagenic and hepatoprotective activities. A wide range of chemical compounds including achrosin, aloeemodin, emodin, anthraquinones, anthrones, apigenin, aurantiobtusin, campesterol, cassiollin,chryso-obtusin, chrysophanic acid, chrysarobin, chrysophanol, chrysoeriol etc. have beenisolated from this plant.
By weighing the grinded plant and then socked in ethanol and by testing all the phytochemicals to determine the secondary metabolites
The result showed that some of the secondary metablolites where present and some where absent.
Conclude that within the scope of experimental limit, the leaves of cassia occidentals plant contained alkaloid, saponins, tannins, flavonoid, quinone and antraqnine. Thus this might say that, the reported anti bacterial activity of the plants was confirmed due to the fact of the antibacterial testing. And more research need to be concluded on this plant and activity compound need to isolate.
